Health services alone are not sufficient unless actively supported by the community. The Multi-Purpose Health Worker (Female), or MPHW(F), plays a vital role in the rural healthcare system. She is expected to be sensitive, accountable, and capable of delivering accessible, acceptable, equitable, affordable, and quality healthcare. MPHW(F) also acts as a catalyst in promoting inter-sectoral coordination in preventive and promotive health services. The curriculum is structured to prepare skilled and effective female health workers aligned with the goals of the National Rural Health Mission, focusing on improving the health system and status of the country. The course equips students with community-based health skills to provide basic care based on local needs. It also fits into the broader education and nursing training framework.
General Objectives of the Course:
- Perform holistic care of individuals, families, and communities in both institutional and community health settings.
- Participate actively in local, state, and national health programs and campaigns.
Specific Objectives:
- Participate as a member of the health team in preventive and promotive health services.
- Provide first aid and referral services.
- Identify and treat common ailments.
- Deliver maternal and child healthcare in both institutional and rural settings.
- Provide referral services for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Contribute to prevention and control of nutritional and communicable diseases.
- Support family welfare programs.
Skills Developed:
- Create health awareness among individuals, families, and communities.
- Deliver holistic care to the sick.
- Perform basic immunization services.
- Communicate effectively for health education.
- Contribute to communicable disease control.
- Provide emergency and disaster care.
- Organize and conduct health clinics at various centers.
- Motivate eligible couples for adopting family planning methods.
Course Duration:
- The duration of the course is two years.
